Election Outcome: Coalition Government Formed

No single party secured a majority in the 21-seat Parliament. The People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) won seven seats, falling three short of a majority. Two newly formed parties—the Caymanian Community Party (TCCP) and the Cayman Islands National Party (CINP)—each secured four seats. Three independent candidates also won seats. Subsequently, a coalition government was formed comprising the TCCP, CINP, and the independents. André Ebanks, leader of the TCCP, was appointed as the new Premier, with Gary Rutty of the CINP serving as Deputy Premier. The new government to be known as the National Coalition for Caymanians (NCFC) – would stay the course.

Referendum Results

Alongside the general election, voters participated in a nonbinding referendum on three key issues:

1. National Lottery: Approved by 55.17% of voters.

2. Decriminalization of Cannabis: Approved by 60.40% of voters.

3. Cruise Berthing Infrastructure: Rejected by 68.85% of voters, reflecting environmental concerns.

This election marks a pivotal moment in the Cayman Islands’ political landscape, with new leadership and policy directions emerging from the coalition government.
